Don Linn
Quilt-A-Matic
Our speaker for May is Don Linn, also known as "Mr. Quilt”. Mr. Quilt moniker started as a joke among his friends and family and was a take-off on Bob Uecker, Mr. Baseball. The name has really changed his life. Not only did it lead him to be a guest on Alex Anderson's show on HGTV "Simply Quilts”, he is also an author and designer of quilt patterns.
Don resides in Redding, California with his wife Donna. Last year they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Congratulations!
Don had an entire career working in various manufacturing facilities as a draftsman. It was there that he dealt with a wide array of geometric shapes while doing machine design work before returning to college. After college he worked in upper management in both the forest products industry and the pre-cast concrete industry. During this time he drew upon his experience as a draftsman in designing machinery and doing production drawings.
Don's journey in quilting began after a corporate downsizing. He started out with a long arm machine and not a clue how to operate it. Since then, he has taught himself how to machine quilt, design, and piece quilts. He is now a well-known teacher of machine quilting and piecing classes. Don feels very blessed to be able to do something he enjoys and to be surrounded by so many wonderful creative people.
Please gather your friends and join us for an evening of fun and laughter. We guarantee no one will fall asleep during this program. See you next month!
As you all know, May is our anniversary month. This year we will be celebrating another
special year---our 30th.
Please join us as we ALL come dressed in the 80's----the year we were discovered!!
In honor of that year, please bring 30 coins for us to donate to a quilt cause--
for one of the museums, etc. It would be fun if your show and tell were things you
made in the 80's. There will be door prizes!!! Maybe even a prize for the "Best Outfit."
